Participants arriving at Lisbon Airport can quickly access Lisbon’s main transport hub.

🚇 From Lisbon Airport to Oriente Station

The easiest and fastest way to reach Lisbon’s main railway station is by metro.

  • Transport: Lisbon Metro – Red Line (Linha Vermelha)

  • Route: Airport → Gare do Oriente

  • Travel time: approximately 10–15 minutes

  • Cost: about €1.80 – €2.00

Tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines located in the airport metro station. These machines accept cash and card payments.

Although airport buses are also available, the metro is usually the fastest and most convenient option.


🚆 Traveling from Lisbon to Santarém

Participants can travel from Lisbon to Santarém by train, bus, or car.

🚆 Option 1 – Train

Taking the train is usually the fastest and most comfortable option.
Trains run frequently from Gare do Oriente to Santarém Train Station.

  • Operator: Comboios de Portugal

  • Travel time: 30–50 minutes

  • Frequency: approximately once per hour

  • Typical cost: €7 – €20, depending on the train type

Tickets can be purchased:

  • At ticket machines at the station

  • At the station ticket counter

  • Online via the Comboios de Portugal website

No advance booking is required, although it can be convenient during busy travel periods.


🚌 Option 2 – Bus

Bus travel is another affordable option between Lisbon and Santarém.

Buses depart from:

  • Gare do Oriente

  • Sete Rios Bus Station

Recommended bus companies include:

  • Rede Expressos

  • FlixBus

  • Travel time: approximately 55–70 minutes

  • Typical cost: €3 – €9

Buses arrive at the main bus station in Santarém, which is conveniently located in the city center, about a 5-minute walk from ISLA Santarém.


🚗 Option 3 – By Car

Driving from Lisbon to Santarém is a straightforward and convenient option, particularly for those renting a car.
From Lisbon, take the A1 Motorway northbound toward Porto. Leave the motorway at Exit 6, following the signs for Santarém.

  • Distance: approximately 80 km

  • Travel time: about 45–50 minutes

Most rental cars from Lisbon Airport are equipped with automatic electronic toll payment systems, making motorway travel simple for visitors.


🚶 From Santarém Train Station to the City Center

The Santarém Train Station is located slightly outside the historic city center.

Participants can reach downtown Santarém by:

  • Local bus with regular connections to the city center

  • Taxi or with services such as Uber

  • Travel time: approximately 10 minutes
